Adults First is an evidence-based Educational Psychology approach in which combined assessment and intervention take place within a broad consultation framework. Main caregivers (parents and/or carers), acknowledged for their unrivalled expertise, are positioned centrally within the process, whilst participant professionals and partner agencies join together to bring their specialist knowledge and relevant service contributions.

The psychologically-led process leads a highly effective model of co-production, achieved within a dialogic space and carefully guided within a multi-agency context. Participants frequently report their positive experiences of being heard, understood and active within the responsive teamwork, which is focussed on bespoke solutions and shared identification of agreed next steps.

Ready attunement and immediate action-planning are commonly valued within the process, whilst the interconnection of research and within-space training as integral elements are repeatedly acclaimed by organisational leads, who cite professional and wider-systems development as positively impactful.
